A nurse from Northridge Surgical Suites will contact you prior to your surgery to review your health history, medications and pre-operative instructions. Please notify your surgeon if there is a change in your physical condition such as cold, fever or respiratory problems. Please follow the below listed fasting guidelines prior to your surgery unless directed otherwise by your surgeon.
Ingested Material: Clear liquids (8 oz or less) –Includes: Water, apple juice, cranberry juice, carbonated beverages, clear tea, black coffee, sport drinks Minimum Fasting Period: 2 Hours
Ingested Material: Breast milk (4 oz or less) Minimum Fasting Period: 4 Hours
Ingested Material: Infant formula (4 oz or less) Minimum Fasting Period: 6 Hours
Ingested Material: Non-human milk (4 oz or less) Minimum Fasting Period: 6 Hours
Ingested Material: Light meal –Includes: Plain toast and clear liquids Minimum Fasting Period: 6 Hours
Ingested Material: Full meal –Includes: Fried or fatty foods, meat or a large meal Minimum Fasting Period: 8 Hours
If your child is the patient, please be careful to monitor this. Please be sure to tell your surgeon if you are on any type of blood thinner including aspirin. Please do not take any medications after midnight unless instructed by your surgeon or the nurse at our center.
It is extremely important to arrange for a responsible adult to accompany you to Northridge Surgical Suites and remain with you the first 24 hours after surgery.
